Fibonacci mathematics is a constantly expanding branch of number theory first created by Leonardo Fibonacci in 1202. It is a deceptively simple series, but its ramifications and applications are nearly limitless. It has fascinated and perplexed mathematicians for over 700 years, and nearly everyone who has worked with it has added a new piece to the Fibonacci puzzle, a new tidbit of information about the series and how it works. Fibonacci numbers are easy to understand. Every number is the sum of the two numbers before it. As the numbers are calculated into infinity they approach what is known as the “The Golden Ratio” or Phi as the numbers get bigger. In the origins of FX trading the use of Fibonacci was more prevalent than today and traders used to figure out their strategies by hand. Technical analysis has come a long way since then with the introduction of electronic trading platforms for traders outside of institutions and bank walls. These numbers help to provide traders with a technical analysis of what is occurring in the financial model.
